American actress Sydney Bernice Sweeney was born on September 12, 1997. Her most well-known parts are from the first season of the anthology series The White Lotus (2021), which she was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for, and the drama series Euphoria on HBO (2019–present).


Sweeney's roles in the limited series Sharp Objects, Everything Sucks!, and The Handmaid's Tale brought her initial notoriety in 2018. She appeared in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood the following year. She starred in the romantic comedy Anyone but You in 2023 and won recognition for her portrayal of Reality Winner in the drama film Reality.




















Childhood

Born in Spokane, Washington, on September 12, 1997, Sydney Bernice Sweeney grew up in a rural lakeside home in northwest Idaho, where her family had lived for five generations. She participated in a variety of sports, including wakeboarding, baseball, snow slalom skiing, and soccer, while attending Saint George's School in Spokane. She was permanently scarred in a wakeboarding accident when she was a child. She participated in the math club "Math is Cool" and was a member of the robotics team in high school. She was valedictorian of her class after studying several languages and earning excellent scores.















After going on an extras casting call for a local indie film in Spokane, Sweeney developed an interest in acting. She showed her parents a five-year business plan in an attempt to persuade them to let her pursue her acting career. At the age of fourteen, she moved to Los Angeles after booking commercial acting roles in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle. She enrolled in tour guide training at Universal Studios Hollywood's Studio Tour in 2016, however she left before finishing the course. She attended University of California, Los Angeles for a short time.

Sweeney has a diverse acting career, starting with guest appearances in TV shows like 90210, Criminal Minds, Grey's Anatomy, and Pretty Little Liars. She starred as Emaline Addario on Netflix's Everything Sucks! in 1996 and appeared in HBO miniseries Sharp Objects as Alice. In 2018, she starred in the thriller film Under the Silver Lake and recurring roles in The Handmaid's Tale and Along Came the Devil.















In 2019, Sweeney began portraying Cassie Howard in the HBO drama series Euphoria, earning her a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2022. Her nude scenes in the series received significant attention, generating discussions about nudity in film and the male gaze.


Sweeney is the founder of production company Fifty-Fifty Films and starred in the TV film Nocturne in 2020. In 2021, she appeared in Mike White's anthology black comedy series The White Lotus as a sardonic college sophomore, receiving critical acclaim for her role. She was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in 2022.


In 2023, Sweeney starred as U.S. Air Force veteran Reality Winner in Tina Satter's thriller drama Reality, which premiered at the 73rd Berlin Film Festival. She also starred in the music video for The Rolling Stones' single "Angry" from their Hackney Diamonds album.


In December 2023, Sweeney starred in the romantic comedy Anyone but You, which became a sleeper hit. In 2024, she had a lead role in the superhero film Madame Web, set in the Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) franchise. She will produce and star in the psychological horror film Immaculate and star alongside Julianne Moore in Echo Valley.
